The Magic Of Menorca
Menorca lies just off the coast of mainland Spain in the sparkling Mediterranean Sea and is the most eastern of the Balearic Islands. It is the quietest of the small group of islands and draws holidaymakers back to its golden beaches year after year. The beaches are one of the main attractions here, and due to its excellent diving conditions, Menorca is also known as the 'Caribbean of the Mediterranean'. Many operators offer 'try dives' so you can have a glimpse of the fascinating under water world that exists beneath the surface.
Mahon is the islands capital, home to the airport and a wonderful fjord-like harbour. It is one of the world's largest natural harbours and has amazing views of the town on the cliff top above. There's also the Xoriguer Distillery at the harbour which is famous for it's gin and mouth watering liqueurs.
Menorca holidays have a much more tranquil and laid back air about them than neighbouring Majorca and Ibiza. It attracts a wide variety of holidaymakers who return year after year. Cala Galdana is a popular south coast resort, with short transfer times and one of the best coves on the island attracting a wonderful mix of tourists of all ages.
Accommodation varies form small guest houses to larger all inclusive hotels, or simple self catering apartments which offer the freedom to try the different bars and restaurants that you'll find on holidays in Menorca. Most restaurants here offer extensive menus and cater exceptionally well for children. Every bar and restaurant has to state whether they allow smoking or not, most do, but you can always select one that doesn't.
